Looking for apps to simplify posting to blogger. Found this on the Google play store and trying it out.

Strange at the moment is that I don't see any settings as to which blog to post the article in.

Apparently, after clicking on the publish, it will ask for the account to save to and then you get the option for which blog to post the article in.

The app allows one to use command syntax for highlighting but one will need to pull it from memory since there doesn't appear to be any help menu.

      美国女孩跟我说：“这是我吃过的最好吃的早餐，非常谢谢您！”这个孩子这么会赞美别人，我第一次被惊到了。给我孩子做了十几年的饭菜，也没听到啥赞誉的话。被赞美的感觉的确非常美妙，一下子就把我们的距离拉近了不少。

　　晚餐，我做了最拿手的西红柿炒鸡蛋、糖醋排骨等三菜一汤，我们边吃边聊，非常开心。吃完饭，两个孩子依旧在聊天，我开始收拾碗筷，美国女孩连忙站起来对我说：“Can I help you？”我第二次一惊，看着这个孩子真诚的样子，我连忙说：“不用了，你们聊。”我的孩子看着我忙碌了十几年都习惯了，基本是熟视无睹。而美国女孩能为对方着想，瞬间做出本能的反应，看来是习惯使然。

　　第二天以后，大家就比较熟悉了，所以一般想问啥就问了。我看到美国女孩子的护照已经很破旧了，就很好奇地问：“你走过了哪些国家？”美国女孩的回答让我第三次被惊到了：“这是我的第三本护照，大概走过了30多个国家。”看着我惊诧的表情，她解释说：“一般假期，我们学校都组织同学出去游学。这次是第一次到中国，主要去上海、南京、北京和西安。”这四个城市是家长和老师们精心挑选出去的，基本代表了中国的过去和现在，我在暗自佩服的同时不由得发问：“你们这样周游世界，学习怎么办？”要知道我们的孩子寒暑假几乎都奔波在各培训点啊。美国女孩看着我孩子一脸的羡慕说：“我们平时的学习任务很重的，每天回家的作业量是5小时。”就这个“5小时”把我丫头给震住了。

　　在聊到业余生活时，我了解到美国女孩家庭的基本情况：爸爸在自己的企业工作；妈妈基本是家庭主妇，不上班，但是美国女孩强调她的妈妈很辛苦，要负责家里的日常生活、草地、游泳池和直升机的日常养护；哥哥负责洗碗和协助妈妈搞卫生；她则是负责家里两条狗和三只猫的衣食起居。一家人各负其责，井井有条。我们家是爸爸、妈妈要上班，妈妈还要负责全家的生活，孩子是两耳不闻窗外事只管学习。在对家庭义务和责任方面明显的我们差距很大。

　　我第四次被惊到的是听俩孩子聊天，我孩子问美国女孩子遇到最恐惧的事情是啥？美国女孩子说是有一年的暑假，几个家庭的父母把几个10多岁的孩子送到原始森林里，没给带水和食物，没有床和帐篷，跟孩子们相约一周后来接。那一周是这个孩子最恐惧的，也是最刺激的。她告诉我孩子为了不挨饿，他们生吃过抓来的老鼠。这样的活动家长们的出发点是锻炼孩子们的生存能力。

　　第五次被惊到的是最后一顿晚饭。快要离开南京了，为了尽地主之谊，给美国女孩尝尝最美味的中国菜，我们带她到了南京最繁华的地段——狮子桥，点了获国家金奖的“鸡煲翅”,当美国女孩明白是鱼翅做的，她非常坚决地拒绝了这道菜：“这道菜我无法接受，动物需要保护。”没有任何回旋的余地，甚至是不近人情。我汗颜之余，敬佩之情油然而生。

　　饭后，几个孩子相约到附近的电玩城去玩，除了我孩子和美国女孩外，我们还邀请了女儿的两个好朋友。整个玩的过程我是听孩子跟我复述的：“妈妈，太可怕了，美国人太厉害了！一进电玩城，我的两个好朋友就上去玩了，什么好玩玩什么。看得出平时繁重的学习压力在这一刻被化解了。而美国女孩子则拉着我边走边观察什么游戏盈利最大，转了一圈才锁定目标，美国女孩子赢了很多游戏币，分给我们3个，再去找自己感兴趣的游戏玩。”我这一次不仅仅是惊了，简直是被震撼了：小小年纪就知道如何做到利益最大化，处处深思熟虑，确实是太可怕了。

~~我孩子说了一句让我思考至今的话：“妈妈，我们这样下去，以后真的只能是给他们打工的啊……”

　　短暂的一周时间，给了我六个大大的惊诧。

~~我们的孩子未来将要面对的是这样的对手！

~~而我们是在培养怎样的孩子？过分的溺爱、频繁的干预、过度的保护，导致了我们的孩子无情和无能。目前的复印机式的教育消耗着孩子们的精力，限制了孩子们的追求。

~~众所周知：自然是孩子的天性，自由是孩子的本性，扼杀天性和本性，就是扼杀成长的活力和动力，如此的教育能培养出创造性的人才吗？

My Ancestry Tree

If you meet some distant relative, would you know who is older? Not in terms of age, but in the order according to your genealogy tree?

I have some who are much older than I am but they have to adress me as uncle or something older. Any idea how the Chinese are able to keep track of who belongs to which generation?


Its simply a poem. Most Chinese names have 3 characters. The first is the surname, the second character is the taken from the poem, where each character in the poem represents the generation and the third character differentiates one person to the next.

Goodbye Multiply

 Except for checking the occasional market sites to check on the prices, its has been ages since I last used or access my multiply accounts. Only today did I learn that Multiply is closing its social network site and will concentrate on its e-Commerce aspect.  For a number of us that have previously used the account, the problem is we have until December 1,  2012 (that's already tomorrow!) to download everything.  :-(

Where did my Smart prepaid load go?

I was trying out a Smart prepaid sim on a hand-me-down Iphone 3GS.  Last July 24, I put in a prepaid load of P100.  To be sure that I don't accidentally use the load on mobile internet, I have disabled the 3G as well as Cellular Data.

Just now, I found the feature of the Sim Applications and checked my load balance and I received a text saying I have only P10.00 balance.

I have not made any calls nor sent anyone any text messages.

So where did my load go to?  Is there a way to find out where it went?

QC Regulates Use of Plastic Bags

The Quezon City Government has enacted Ordinance #2140 otherwise known as the "Plastic Bag Reduction Ordinance" .  Instead of outright banning the use of plastic bags, the government has implemented a scheme that will reduce the use of plastic bags in the city.  The plan is to change the mindset of the consumers to bring their own reusable bags when they make their purchases in all  shops including supermarkets, grocery stores, restaurants, pharmacy, department stores as well as the wet markets. 
The aim of the government is to reduce the trash being thrown into the landfill. As cited in the Ordinance, the city produces some 700  cu. m. or about forty five 10-wheeler truck load of plastic bags alone which are being dumped in the Payatas landfill per day.

A total ban on plastic is not the best solution to the garbage problem.  According to www.reuseit.com, paper is better than plastic is a myth.  Forcing people to shift to using paper bags will not reduce the trash produced but will actually increase costs as well as increase the cutting of trees.  You can read more on the Paper Chase from the Ecology Global Network .
 In the implementation which takes effect starting on August, 2012, the government is  imposing a "plastic recovery system fee" of P2.00 to the consumer who do not bring their own reusable bags or redeem "used plastic bags".  The P2.00 is charged on each plastic bag, regardless of size.  The collected amount will be put into a Green Fund which can then be used in the store's green projects.

For the mechanics, consumers are to bring their own bags to used for their shopping.  They can bring reusable bags or old plastic bags.  The old plastic bags can be redeemed with the store ie. they will be replaced with new ones for use of their current purchase.  If however the consumer does not bring a bag, and would require their purchase to be put into one, they will be charged P2.00 for each bag.

 To date, only the Manila Bulletin,  the Daily Tribune and Journal Online has carried the news, so the question now is how aware the public will be come August.

Galaxy Y Duos

Just got hold of a Samsung Galaxy Y Duos B5512 to replace my haywire Samsung Galaxy Pro B7510. This is so I have a phone to use while getting the latter fixed, which incidentally is still under warranty.

Turned the Y Duos on and it shows 160MB of free space.  After setting up the first account and sync, the free space dropped to 153mb. This will probably mean I cannot install all the apps that I like.  Will be sticking to the essentials:  Evernote, Keepassdroid,  Dropbox, and HandcentSMS.

Will work on getting it rooted as well so I can run additional programs that can move the apps to SD card to free up the phone's onboard memory.

Waze: Navigating traffic the social way

While searching for an alternative navigation program, I came across an app called Waze.  Aside from having a navigation program, the software comes with a social aspect where everyone helps with reporting traffic conditions.  When you're in the car or even just commuting, leave the program on and it automatically tracks where you are using GPS as well as your travel speed.  Other users can then see what roads are slow moving and avoid them.

Users can also post reports like police, hazards or just let people know traffic conditions using a shout out or even chat. Users can also help update the system by adding roads to the map when its not complete.  From the desktop, users edit the map by adding and editing road or correcting the traffic flow like one-way roads or insert U-turns slots.

Security-wise, the system allows users to remain anonymous and there is nothing that allows one to track anyone in particular.


Though the traffic status function is similar to the MMDA traffic reports app for Android and on the Iphone, it is not limited to just the 9 major thoroughfares.  The MMDA has their twitter account which allows people to post updates but its not as easy to just look at a map and see red line indicating slow moving or heavy traffic.  The disadvantage though is the number of users out on the streets at anytime of the day.  Now if there are more people using this, then it could make travel life easier for everyone.

The app is available for Android, the Iphone, Blackberry, Symbian, and Windows Mobile.

I always have friends or relatives call and ask about their computer problems.   Its ok if they are online since we have a remote access software that allows us to remotely control their computer.  But more often than not, I tell them to bring it over since its impossible to see what they are doing wrong or what is wrong with the unit and they could not explain it properly.
